Robert D. “Bob” Gilbert, 78, passed away at the Lincoln Community Hospital in Hugo, Lincoln County, Colorado following a short illness. He was born June 29, 1941, in Climax, Lake County, Colorado to Harry and Beulah Gilbert.

Bob graduated from Woodrow High School in Washington County Colorado. He worked on the family farm following graduation. In 1963 he joined the US Army. Following his honorable discharge in 1969, Bob returned to the family farm. Bob loved working with cattle.

Bob married Melva Vernie in 1996. They continued to live on the family ranch west of Last Chance, Washington County, Colorado and in Limon, Lincoln County, Colorado.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Harry Gilbert and Beulah Gilbert, one brother, and one nephew.

Survivors include his wife, Melva of Limon; three children, Amy Hampton, Anita Grover, and Greg Vernie; One brother, Ronald Gilbert; two sisters, Marjorie Quint and Theresa Rhodes; three grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Graveside service with social distancing due to the Coronavirus pandemic will be Monday, April 27, 2020 at 11:00 AM at the Brush Memorial Cemetery Interment Chapel.
